I was addicted to Diet Pepsi for years! I probably drank 1-2 per day (at least). Right about the same time as I started to get serious about getting in shape, someone sent me an article on diet soda and heart disease. Reading that article, in combination with my trainers recommendation, and I stopped drinking soda – cold turkey. About 30 days after quitting, I had a taste of a diet soda. Just one sip and I realized I did not miss it at all. In fact, it tasted like just a bunch of chemicals in my mouth. Looking back, I cannot believe I was putting all those chemicals into my body on a daily basis.
My issue with soda (and diet soda) now is that there is no nutritional value. I cannot seem to find any articles on the health benefits of drinking soda or diet soda. But there are many articles and studies on the health risks of drinking soda, everything from heart disease, metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes and the list goes on. Here are 3 fun video clips on the topic. If you drink soda or if you kids drink soda, please have a look!
Do you drink 1 drink diet soda per day? It could be increasing your chances of heart disease by 61%. There is debate around these findings, but if there is even a small chance they are right, do you want to roll the dice while they figure it out? Remember ‘zero benefit’ and potential of increased health issues down the road!
