what happens in vegas stays in vegas (except what you eat and drink ;) – Day 1

August 15, 2011 by tk

You guessed it. We are in Vegas for a little 3 night 4 day getaway :)  So I figured I would share what I do in vegas to eat as healthy as possible and to not bring home any extra body fat :)    I will do my very best to blog each day so you can follow along.  Wish me luck!

Breakfast:
During the 5-hour drive up you still have some control.  We started our day on Sunday morning with our normal breakfast of oatmeal and I added a hard boiled egg because I knew I would need the additional protein to keep me going for the drive.

Snack:
We brought some raw nuts and our friends brought some raw veggies and yogurt dip :)  There were a couple stops at starbucks for coffee and green tea along the way as well.

Lunch:

Did not really have a lunch, but I did snack on some more nuts and some rice cracker & nut mixture our friends brought.  I was actually very satisfied.

Snack:
Once we got to our room, we had some more nuts and then an Atkins bar.  I am not a big fan of bars, but I’d rather eat a sugar free protein bar than something that I am forced to eat out of desperation.

Off to the pool and some relaxation!  OK I did have one small Texas Avocado roll, I was just being polite, but I did it…bad boy!

Dinner:
Before dinner, we had some more nuts.  I guess we are starting to see a theme.  I am a fan of nuts.  People say, ‘Oh those are fattening.’  I guess if you had a ton of them and you exceeded your normal calorie intake it could be an issue. But our bodies need the healthy fats and as long as your eating the right calories and not having the bad calories you should be just fine.   Nuts give you lots of energy, are easy to carry around with you on the go and are just the perfect vacation food.

We do have a favorite Mexican place we eat at when we stay here at the Red Rock Resort called Agave.  The food is great!  I split a veggie Chile Relleno with Karen and I had some chips and guacamole, heavy on the guacamole and easy on the chips. Again, focus on the good fats and easy on the carbs from the chips :(   But you do have to indulge a little and have some fun. After all, you are on vacation!  Note: the picture below is what we split :)

Drinks (the rule is no more than 2 per day….but in Vegas that is more of a guideline…let’s just leave it at that ):
General rule of thumb, sandwich your cocktails with water.  In Vegas, it is hot.  You need extra water and the alcohol also dehydrates you more.  Doubling up on your water will help you a lot!   Stick with low sugar drinks like vodka soda and stay away from the beer. If you have to have a beer, go for a light one.

OK, I need to go have some more fun now. Our friends are waiting at the pool and they may begin to wonder :)

See ya tomorrow :)
