Whether you know it or not we are in a war. Look around you next time you go out to eat or in the grocery store. Look at the stats on the side bar of my blog. The U.S. is in a war with itself. We are all getting a little bigger and our health is in crisis. But we can win this war on the bulge!
It will NOT be won by the companies providing the food changing what they make available for us to eat. It will NOT be won by the pharmaceutical companies suggesting healthier food choices over drugs. It will NOT be won by the government forcing the change (because they can’t).
It will ONLY be won if YOU make a change in what you chose to eat. Because if you change what you eat and I change what I eat and your friends change what they eat and if your co-workers change what they eat — then, and only then, will the food companies be forced to change what they are providing. It’s a supply and demand issue.
I cannot blame the food companies or the drug companies. They are in business to make a profit. If they volunteered to change their product before people were ready they would go out of business. We have to make the stand and make the change! Together we can do it! But I cannot do it alone and neither can you! We all need to support each other!
The challenge? Everyone is different! Every person’s body is different and so everyone’s nutrition needs to be customized to the individual.
Having said that, I have found that there are some common struggles that people have making a healthy change in their lifestyle. Actually there are a couple, but the one I would like to talk about today is SUPPORT – not of me, or your trainer, or even your family (which can be an issue as well). What I am talking about is the support of the people you spend the most time with (outside of the home). This would be your friends and co-workers.
Let’s face it. You spend at least 8 hours a day with people besides your family. That is a lot of time.
Whether lunch time at the office, girls night out or football with the guys — you name it — you will be out with a group of people and they will be eating and drinking whatever they want, while you are trying to make the right choice. It’s hard and it makes it more challenging to focus on the healthy lifestyle you are building for yourself. In the beginning, when you are starting out, it is critical to have all the support you can from everyone around you.
Can you imagine how much easier it would be if you had support at home, the office and with your friends? How much quicker would you reach your goals?
Well, based on the feedback I have received from my clients, I have created a new program called groupLOSS designed to help you take a team approach to weight loss.
groupLOSS is a nutrition education-based program that is designed to help you and your friends team up together to lose weight. Whether it’s a group of co-workers, friends, a club, family, or really whoever you tend to spend a lot of time with — you work together for 8 weeks, with me, as a group and you each lose anywhere from 4-16 pounds! It is just like working with me one-on-one, but you get to share the cost with your friends and you can all (as a team) support and encourage each other to stay the course. You will be working on a team goal, rather than an individual goal.
Bottom line you would no longer be in this battle alone! (Which, by the way, you’re not alone – sometimes it just feels like it!) And, you’ll be amazed at how much easier it can be as part of a team effort – not to mention, more fun!
This is a war we are losing right now. Please help me fight this battle and share this blog post with the people you care about – Thank you!
